PSALMS FROM THE HEART

EMMANUEL JOSEPH & THE SHANTI-ITES

 CAT NO:FAL LP/CD 002

The long awaited album from EMMANUEL JOSEPH has finally been released.

Fruits in due season, meaning nothing happen before its time,and so it is with this release. Now is the right time for the songs and voice of Emmanuel Joseph to be heard. Lyrical content with more understanding and meaning in one verse for these troubled days and times, then all the sugary sweet sentiments and posturing drivel promoted by those that would rather treat you like a mushroom. Kept in the dark and fed bulls**t!

Think Burning Spear with an attitute and an angloised slant and you have this release to tee. Times are tough and they are only getting tougher for everyone.
What! I hear you scream. This is not like any review sheet I have read coming from a record company promotions department. That is just it, we are not like any other record company and this is not like any other release. This is urban Roots for urban people. Just like the old Blues men sang about what was going on in their vicinity, so this puts into song what is actually happening to you and to me. Real people music for real people's suffering and concerns.I cannot put it any better then the late great Robert Nestor Marley, this is 'Talking Blues'. Tracks like 'Road To Zion' putting into song what it takes to be true to yourself.. 'Rage & War' and 'Warmongers' highlighting the inner city struggles of everyday people and those that think they are have a right to subject those people to war & strife . They have no consideration and take wilful advantage of the situation..They believe them to be the underclass That is you and me they are taking liberties with!

My personal favourite track is 'Youthman'. True, true words. Check out the lyrics and see if you don't agree. It is not about one particular race, creed or colour, it is affecting all races, creeds and colours. Our future generations, sons and daughters, are killing and maiming each other for nothing more than a post code, a district they live in. It brings sadness to my soul and untold misery to those that have to bury their children. Children killing children!

I have written this before, but it is true and evident, so I feel no way in repeating it; as Cyrus states in his opening speech to the collective gangs of New York in the 1979 film 'The Warriors';

"The problem in the past has been the man turning us against one another. We have been unable to see the truth, because we have fighting for ten square feet of ground, our turf, our little piece of turf. That's crap, brothers! The turf is ours by right, because it's our turn. All we have to do is keep up the general truce. We take over one borough at a time. Secure our territory... secure our turf... because it's all our turf!"

Emmanuel Joseph is truely a 'Troubadour of the Urban Expanse',

So now you have the background to what you can expect lyrically. Now couple that with the music/poly rythmns crafted by Blood Shanti and the Shanti-ites and you have a classic in the making. I don't perpetuate hyperbole and I don't use the word 'classic' lightly.

As with all our album releases we cater for all people and so we have a dub mix of the vocal tracks for thoses that just want to nod their head with whatever stimuli they personally choose.But be careful dear listener, these tunes are very hypnotic.

The album finishes with a remix of 'Open Road' and the remix dub, just for good measure.

So that my good friends is why this release has been so long in coming.

If you enjoy real music played by real person on real instruments with a vocal that has that deep, dark, Roots and Culture vibe with dubs that will elevate you to an alternate plain of conciousness, then this is for you. If you love quality Roots & Culture, you will love this.
