Once we had finished
the sound check we went outside to get something to eat.
Outside there was a man in an Aba Shanti tee shirt and I thought
he was one of the security for the event, but Guil told me he
was doctor in the army and a big Aba fan. He introduced him to
Aba and I as Bush
Doctor.
As we were chatting DJ Igal arrived and then Guil's daughter turned
up with the huge banner for her father.
Time was running and passing, for even though it was a Saturday
night, it is like our Sunday. The Jewish day of worship is the
Sabbath, Saturday. The following day Sunday is a workday.
We were due on stage
at 22:30, but as DJ Igal was doing the warm up we had till 22:30.
The time now 21:20.
We finally got on our way and Guil took us to a new place called
'Moses' to get something to eat.
Even though Aba wanted to go back to the Brazilian restaurant
we had visited on our last trip in September 2005, we didn't have
the time.
We like to eat in places we have eaten before and liked the food.
Otherwise to be hungry in a place where the food is lame and with
time running short can put a damper on a person's vibe. But we
had no need to worry, suffice to say the food was slamming. Aba
even ordered a takeout of their chicken wings it was so nice.
We returned to the venue
like an old dub album 'Well Pleased and Satisfied'.
On entering the club we met long time sistren Kate who has taken
a new path in her life and moved out of Tel Aviv three years before
and was now living a more simple religious life in the north of
the country. This was the first time she had ventured to a session
in all that time. She looked in good health and she said she was
happy. Kate had travelled to Tel Aviv just to link up with us
I told her I would come and chat to her later as we had to do
the handover.
DJ Igal was in his element
playing his set as we took to the stage and he then introduced
Aba to the assembled and the session started. I went looking for
Kate after about 20 minutes but could not locate her. I asked
Guil if he knew where she was and he replied that she had left.
I asked if he knew why and he told me that being in the club reminded
her too much of her previous life.
So this is for Kate, I know that you might not see this due to
your new frugal lifestyle, but nevertheless;
The
Father will forgive you all your sins if you just acknowledge
him, and let them without sin cast the first stone. Nuff said.
The session was going
well and Bush Doctor came up to me and made a statement about
Aba and here it is verbatim:
"I
have been in Jamaica for 8 months and listened to the sounds that
they have out there and none of them are like Aba. Aba is special.
He is connected."
The session finished
at 03:30. After we packed up the records DJ Igal, Robbi, Sam and
myself just chatted about music, records and dub plate as the
rest of the equipment was dismantled.
We left the venue to return to the hotel at 04:30 and another
session was completed.
Dateline: 26/02/2006
I woke Aba up at 09:15 and we went and had breakfast. The discussion
was about session and the people and things that had happened.
Guil came and got us at 12:00 and we went to Robbi's yard and
had some tea/coffee and good meditation.
We left Robbi's to drive to the airport and catch our plane home.
On the way there Guil played us the new as yet unreleased album
that the artist Turbulence had recorded in Israel and asked our
opinion on it. I told him that I saw Turbulence as a dance hall
artist and even though the lyrics were conscious there was too
much dancehall elements in it for me. But I could see it shifting
units to the audience that like that vibe.
We said farewell to
Guil and went through to the departure lounge.
We had no problems with immigration this time, maybe because we
were leaving. But one curious thing, as we were going through
the boarding the gate I heard one of the security people say into
her walkie talkie:
"Yes Boreland and Smith have just boarded".
I was half expecting us to be dragged off the plane before it
took off, but that didn't happen.
So to all the good people of Israel, but not the immigration girl,
peace and love.
